Department for Project Development and Management has dual missions: 1) providing technical support to clinical research in terms of project design, protocol development, project management and quality control; and 2) conducting high-quality studies in clinical research methodology as well as prevention and treatment of major diseases.
The department has a successful track record. It has—
Undertaken 15 projects with grants from National Science and Technology Pillar Program, National Key R&D Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Beijing Municipal Major Clinical Research Program, and Milstein Medical Asian American Partnership Foundation (MMAAP Foundation);
Provided technical support to over 80 major innovative clinical research projects sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Peking University, pharmaceutical companies, and international organizations;
Published more than 100 papers in The Lancet, JAMA, The BMJ and other prestigious medical journals, over 10 of them on study design and protocol; and
Offered methodology consultation and technical review to 100 projects sponsored by local hospitals, and management service and quality monitoring to 98 investigator- or industry-initiated clinical research projects.
Serving as the office for quality management under the PKU Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), the department has monitored 16 PKU-sponsored and 29 PKU-undertaking clinical research projects. By addressing the absence of proper supervision, transparency, and quality control in academic projects, the department has managed to substantially reduce clinical research-related risks here at the PKU.
Since 2018, as part of a Capital Health Research and Development Project, the department has contributed core technical support and training of monitors at three levels to the establishment and operation of a three-tiered quality control system.
