Prof. Wu’s primary focus is on epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), prevention and control of CVDs in the population, and clinical research methodology. He has presided over dozens of research projects, with grants from National Program for Science and Technology Development, National Science and Technology Pillar Program, National Key R&D Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), and the UK Medical Research Council (MRC). He served as Director of the WHO Collaborating Center in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Control and Research, and is the founding Director of The George Institute for Global Health, China, and one of the founders of the PUCRI. He has an excellent track record in designing and executing large-scale multi-site RCTs and real-world studies, including clinical trials of Wenstardin (a lipid-lowering agent, first of its kind in China) and rhTNK-tPA (a domestically developed third-generation thrombolytic agent), as well as several ongoing large and super-large multi-site clinical trials sponsored by the Chinese National Key R&D Program, the NIH, and the NHMRC. Under his leadership, the PUCRI received mandate in 2013 from the Ministry of Education in setting up the secondary discipline of Sciences in Clinical Research, and started its master’s and doctoral programs. Prof. Wu has published over 260 articles in prestigious journals such as The Lancet, JAMA, The BMJ, and Circulation, and edited or contributed to 12 books. He is a national candidate of the New Century Millions of Talents Project, and enjoys State Council Special Allowance.
